About Us

Waipahu Boxing Club Roots

The Waipahu Boxing Club is more than a gym—it’s a family built on the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance. Founded by the late Al “Quick” Silva, the club has long been a safe space where young people can find guidance, strength, and community.  . Today, his legacy thrives at Waipahu District Park under Coaches Aaron Manuel, Rory Santos, and Marvin Martinez—each trained under Silva’s guidance—who continue to uphold his values of discipline, respect, and excellence. As of 2025, the Waipahu Boxing Club is a proud 501(c)(3) nonprofit, continuing to provide free and affordable programs that inspire youth to grow not only as athletes, but as leaders in life.

Coach Al "Quick" Silva's Legacy

The Waipahu Boxing Club, founded by the late Al “Quick” Silva, carries a proud legacy of shaping champions and strengthening the community. A decorated local and military boxing champion, Silva was inducted into the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame and founded the club through the Police Activities League (PAL). He went on to train world-class fighters such as Brian Viloria, an Olympic boxer and world champion; Jesus Salud, named among the “100 Greatest Punchers of All Time”; and Andy Ganigan, a celebrated professional champion
